The DLAB Makerspace is where ideas take shape. It is a fully equipped, high-tech environment for students and researchers to build, test, and refine physical prototypes. Whether you are validating a startup concept or developing a course-related project, the Makerspace enables real progress through hands-on experimentation.
The space is designed to support early-stage innovation. It lowers the barrier to building your first version, whether that means a technical proof-of-concept, a low-fi prototype, or a full product mock-up.

The Makerspace includes:
Mechanical workshop – for metalworking, cutting, drilling, and assembly
Wood workshop – for structural builds and rapid prototyping
Electronics workspace – for circuit design, soldering, and testing
Chemical and optical labs – for material experiments and precision testing
Tooling, workbenches, and safety equipment – with training available on-site
Technical team support – for project guidance and access to equipment

DLAB startup teams
All active DLAB projects have access to the Makerspace, including materials funding for early prototyping.
VU-UT track students
The Makerspace plays a central role in the Mechanical Engineering and Creative Technology joint programs between VU and the University of Twente. Students use the space for extracurricular projects, assignments and group challenges, often working alongside DLAB startups.
>>>
Before using the Makerspace, you complete a short onboarding and safety session. After that, you can request workspace, tools or technical support as needed. The lab manager and technical team are available to help you get started and troubleshoot during development.
You do not need to be an engineer or have prior experience—just the willingness to build and the readiness to learn.
>>>
The Makerspace is more than a room full of machines. It represents DLAB’s commitment to experimentation, iteration, and self-driven progress. It allows students and researchers to:
Test assumptions quickly and affordably
Learn by doing not just planning
Develop technical skills in parallel with entrepreneurial ones
Build confidence through creation
